Nandigram - Computer Training Center

The Nandigram organization in Valsad district of Gujarat runs a computer center to train youth from mostly tribal and disadvantaged backgrounds. The center, located in Dharampur Zilla, Valsad district currently has 6 computers and an instructor and trains about 15 youth (check number) in basic computer skills. The major challenge that the center faces is the frequent and lengthy power outages, which makes it virtually impossible to fully utilize the instructor's time at the center. The center currently needs a power generator and an a/c system in order to effectively conduct their training sessions and realize their full potential.

Project Goals:

  • To reduce the existing digital divide in society by giving access to modern technology to youth from tribal and disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • To empower tribal youth by imparting employment-oriented skills.
  • To give access to tribal people to the vast information that is available on the internet, which could increase their awareness of various issues and potentially transform their lives by connecting them more with the mainstream population.

VIDE decided to provide these basic amenities to the Nandigram project so that the goals of the center could be met. The total project cost is Rs. 1,05,000 out of which Rs.65,000 is for the generator and Rs.40,000 was is for the A/C system. This is a one-time investment on capital equipment.
